We welcome yesterday afternoon’s vote in the National Assembly which paves the way for a ban on smoking in cars carrying children across the UK.

“The Assembly vote this afternoon demonstrates the widespread cross party support we have in Wales to protect children from the harm of second hand smoke. A Yougov survey last year showed that a ban on smoking in cars carrying children also has 82% public support in Wales.

We hope that a ban on smoking in cars will be introduced for the whole of the UK but if it is not, then the vote today shows that the Welsh Government has a strong mandate for going it alone and introducing legislation in Wales without further delays.”
